An ocean seaborne gift basket may be worth £5,000, but it’s not exactly a bargain when you factor in the cost of shipping.
The price tag has risen to £12,000 after the UK’s Ministry of Defence decided to replace the £7,000 gift basket it was selling for £2,500.
The Royal Navy has also announced that its £25,000 basket of fish will be replaced with a £6,000 one, while the Royal Air Force is expected to receive £10,000 worth of new cargo containers, according to The Daily Telegraph.
But how much do you actually have to pay to get a gift from the ocean?
Let’s take a look.
When to Buy A Gift Bag?
The UK’s Department of Defense said it will replace its £7000 gift bag, pictured, with a new one costing £12 000 on Monday, June 25, 2019, as part of its effort to save money.
It will also replace the existing £5k gift basket with a higher-end one costing up to £7.5k, the Pentagon said.

In April, it was revealed that the Royal Australian Air Force was getting a $10 million gift basket of food, drink and other supplies, including fuel, to replace its existing gift baskets.
But while these gifts are great for the military, the cost to send them is not as low as you might think.
According to The Guardian, shipping the items overseas could take up to two years, meaning it might cost between £9,000 and £19,000 for a gift package.
And in the case of the Marine Corps, the Navy and the Royal Army, it could cost upwards of £30,000 to send something like a new $3,500 boat.
How to Save Money On the other hand, a £25k gift bag may not sound that bad.
But for those who want to save as much as possible, it’s a good idea to look into shipping gifts online first, before buying one.
The best way to get started is to use the UK Gift Basket Calculator to get an idea of how much you’ll have to spend on shipping a gift bag overseas.
If you are buying a gift bundle from a UK retailer, you’ll need to do a search on the item’s country of origin and then click the “Shipping” link on the right side of the page.
That will take you to a shipping calculator which will help you determine how much it would cost you to ship it overseas.
It’s worth noting that the shipping costs are based on a UK customs fee of about £0.50 per pound, and not the UK rate.
So it could be cheaper to buy a UK-bound package online, and then head out for your trip.
